Ribera Lab enables safe sport with Covid tests, over-training monitoring and specific check-ups

  • The Ribera healthcare group’s laboratory division works with more than a dozen clubs and many other federations, through Alicante’s Immunology Center.
  • It provides their athletes with all types of laboratory tests on site, giving personalized attention and avoiding the need for them to travel.

Alicante, 3rd, June, 2020  Ribera Lab, the Ribera healthcare group‘s division, enables more than a dozen clubs and other such federations to practise safe sport in order to guarantee the health and maximum performance of their athletes, always aiming to ensure their physical well-being. Through Alicante’s Immunology Center, Ribera Lab collaborates with multiple entities, not only in the Valencian Community but throughout Spain, carrying out all types of laboratory tests on athletes, from Covid tests in order to play tournaments or championships to over-training monitoring, general and specific check-ups, cardiogenetics and parameter monitoring.

The Ribera healthcare group laboratory division provides these tests on its own premises or at the club and federation venues, as well as at places where there are gatherings or at sports halls where a competition takes place. The Alicante province is the chosen base for a lot of teams for gatherings and long training periods for various sports, due to the versatility of its terrain and, in particular, because of the weather conditions, which enables training in the open air all year round. Throughout the whole season, the Ribera Lab-Immunology Center has provided serological tests and PCR tests to athletes and technical staff when travelling or when it has been necessary for them to participate in competitions. However, in addition, the specific check-ups that are carried out, with the monitoring of parameters that the clubs’ or federations’ medical bodies establish, allow for the detection of, for example, when a certain level could pose a physical problem for the athlete and, thus, damage to the heart, liver or musculoskeletal system is avoided. The tests always use a range of values, within which it is understood that there is no danger involved for the athlete. And it is precisely this type of check-up for elite athletes or those that compete at a high level that enables them to avoid significant damage and help to take care of the health of this group of people. In addition, the Immunology Center specializes in cardiogenetics, in order to prevent any of the possible outcomes such as the sudden death of athletes.

Valencia, 2nd, February, 2020   The Ribera healthcare group has become a finalist in the ABB Ability Digital Awards with a digital psychotherapy project to improve anxiety and depression, developed together with Serenmind, one of the first startups sponsored by the group, in their commitment to contribute to the transformation of healthcare.

These awards, organized by ABB and the Excellence in Sustainability Club, award best practices in digitalization and the Ribera project, through the Serenmind application, is one of those. The ABB Ability Digital Awards are holding their third edition this year and they have a panel formed by renowned experts on an institutional, academic and business level, which value the economic, social and environmental impact of each project, as well as their originality, innovative nature and scope. In this edition, in the Large Enterprise category, one of the three finalists is the Ribera group with the project “Digital psychotherapy to improve emotional wellbeing in matters related to anxiety and depression”.

The collaboration between Ribera and Serenmind started a year and a half ago, with the selection of this start-up within the context of the Corporate program Lanzadera in which the healthcare group participates. This collaboration has enabled the development of new applications for remote self-guided psychological therapy, designed by Serenmind. Their app enables the personalization of treatments according to the program that the professionals establish and the needs of the patient, who can access a great deal of adapted content from any mobile device, with videos, audios, texts and exercises related to relaxation, breathing and meditation techniques to guide them in their therapy. Patients can also evaluate their progress in the established plan, with “emotional tracking”. Furthermore, due to the pandemic, the Ribera group has offered the application to its professionals, alongside the Emotional Support program that they have in all of their centers.

The recognition from the ABB Digital Awards strengthens the Ribera group’s commitment to contribute to the transformation of healthcare from their own technological applications that their affiliate FutuRS develops, but also, through the co-innovation with start-ups such as Serenmind.

  • The healthcare group, like seven other large enterprises, will issue a challenge to designers to carry out a project that places value on the importance of design in innovation processes.
  • The head of Ribera’s Digital Transformation, Tania Menéndez, has highlighted “the importance of combining talent, technology and innovation to build the healthcare of the future and  expand our group’s responsible and sustainable health model.

Valencia, 22nd, April, 2021  The Ribera healthcare group has participated in the first work session of the Program for Innovation through Design (PID), an initiative of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, directed and organized by Innova&acción. Like another seven large enterprises that are also participating in this program, Ribera will issue a challenge to a designer chosen by the organization, to carry out a practical project that places value on the importance of design from the very beginning of the innovation processes.

The head of Ribera’s Digital Transformation,  Tania Menéndez, pointed out during the start of this work session that “we are designing the healthcare of the future, and that includes talent, technology and innovation, in order to build a responsible and sustainable health model”. In addition, she explained how design “is essential in the whole innovation process, being key when it comes to developing products and services that are adjusted to the real needs of our patients”. “In the digital world, this discipline has become a strategic element, having a direct impact on activity, and participating in this program will give us the opportunity to identify talent and work with great professionals on a challenge that we will be able to apply in our hospitals”, she added.

Tania Menéndez conveyed the healthcare group’s policy of expansion and diversification to the attendees, a group “which already has eight hospitals in four Spanish regions, healthcare projects in Central Europe, the United Kingdom and Latin America, and a technological division, futuRS, which is highly committed to innovation in health”.

At the opening of the event, Olga Broto, director of  Innova&acción and director of PID, and Juan Pastor, expert in creativity and academic director of PID, as well as Luis Calabuig, vice-president of the  Associació València Capital del Disseny, participated. “The professional image of the designer as a specialist in innovation began with PID. A professional profile that will help companies to achieve more creativity and profitability in their products and services”, Juan Pastor pointed out. Furthermore, Olga Broto emphasized the fact that “at a time when digitalization and technology play an essential role, designers and companies should share a common language that allows them to not only combine their skills but to multiply them.

Ribera, Digital Transformation award for their innovation projects in population health management

  • Valencia’s Chamber of Commerce recognises the healthcare group’s commitment to technology applied to the personalization of care, the empowerment of patients and professionals and the improvement of communication and the humanization of healthcare.
  • The group’s health portal, YOSalud, and the personalized care plans, Trucare, improve the health and quality of life of the patients belonging to their healthcare centers, with greater control remotely and a reduction of 30% in admissions.

Valencia, 10th September, 2021 –  The CEO of the healthcare group Ribera, Elisa Tarazona, collected the Digital Transformation award last night, which Valencia’s Chamber of Commerce presents every year, for their innovation projects in populational health management, accompanied by Centene‘s European executive director and board member of the Ribera healthcare group, Alberto de Rosa. The Night of the Valencian Economy, held at Valencia’s Palacio de Congresos, was the setting chosen in order to present this acknowledgement, which places value on tools such as the group’s health portal, YOSalud, and the personalized care plans, Trucare, in order to improve the health and quality of life of the patients.

At the awards ceremony, Elisa Tarazona highlighted the value of this award in the context of a global pandemic “that has changed all of our lives, but also pushed us to keep improving, growing and innovating in terms of tools that provide and improve the healthcare of the citizens”. “The Ribera group has always been committed to technology applied to the personalization of healthcare, the participation of citizens in their self care, and the involvement of professionals in the creation of predictive models and applications that, together with the collaboration with startups, enable the follow-up and monitoring of the health indicators of their patients”, she affirms. The key is, as Tarazona explains, “in joining forces, creating synergies, sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences, collaborating as we have been doing until now with public institutions and private companies, because it is this mutual support that allows us all to learn from our mistakes and enrich ourselves with our successes”.

The Digital Transformation award from Valencia’s Chamber of Commerce also places value on the empowerment of patients and professionals to which Ribera provide tools in order to care for their health, as well as the projects of the group that aim to improve communication and the humanization of healthcare.

All of these tools, channeled through the YOSalud health portal and the personalized care program Trucare, have shown very positive results in the assessments carried out by the Ribera group. Previously, indicators were defined which enabled the control of both the process itself (patients evaluated and with an active care plan, progression of the follow-up activities of the pathologies, etc.) and the health results (control of diabetes in patients, change in lifestyle habits from time to time), as well as in terms of hospital admissions, emergencies, etc. For example, the medical admissions of chronic patients that have participated in these personalized care programs have reduced by up to 30% and the average length of stay is 35% shorter.
