As of today, the Ribera Healthcare Group is managing the Covadonga Hospital in Gijón. This health centre and its associated polyclinic, located in the city centre, represent the Ribera Group’s entry into Asturias and the growth of its northwest hub, where it already has three hospitals and several clinics in the neighbouring autonomous community of Galicia.

Following the signing of the agreement for the incorporation of the first hospital in Asturias into the Ribera Health Group on 14 June, the process of integrating the Hospital Covadonga into the group’s structure begins today, with a firm commitment to value medicine, professionals, the strengthening of strategic and cross-cutting areas in the group and collaboration with the administration.

The Covadonga Hospital has more than 100 years of history in Gijón and is a point of reference in the Principality’s healthcare system. It has 5,200 square metres of facilities that were completely refurbished just two years ago, three operating theatres, an endoscopy room, 35 single rooms, 24-hour emergency services, a polyclinic in the centre of Gijón and nearly a hundred professionals in 35 specialities. It also has ten specialised units, including a women’s institute, with specialists in breast surgery and reconstruction, a digestive health unit and special tests such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, gastroscopies and ultrasound scans, to speed up diagnoses, among other services.

With this operation, the Ribera Group confirms its desire to expand and also to continue collaborating with the governments of the different regions of Spain to guarantee the sustainability of healthcare systems. With its expansion, the group’s objective is to continue creating synergies and sharing knowledge and technology, as well as an efficient management model of the highest quality and responsible health, based on prevention, technology and excellence in clinical management.

The CEO of the Ribera Healthcare Group, Elisa Tarazona, highlighted the importance of the Covadonga Hospital in the group’s structure. “Today marks the beginning of a new phase for this hospital, a benchmark in Gijón and the Principality of Asturias. We are convinced that together we will continue to grow, thanks to the shared experience and the new services that we will make available for the health and well-being of the citizens of Gijón and its area of influence”.
