• The aim is to “evaluate the efficacy of the drug in the study of patients with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment, who have brain swelling”.
  • The study will be carried out at the Ribera Povisa hospital (Vigo), under the direction of neurologist José Ramón Lorenzo González.

The Ribera Salud Foundation and Pratia have signed a contract to set up the first clinical trial as a result of their strategic alliance, which will study early Alzheimer’s disease at the Ribera Povisa hospital (Vigo), under the direction of neurologist José Ramón Lorenzo González.

The clinical trial, entitled “Randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study of XPro1595 in patients with early Alzheimer’s disease with biomarkers of inflammation”, aims to recruit a minimum of 5 patients.

The aim of this trial is, as explained by the Ribera Salud Foundation, “to evaluate the efficacy of the drug in the study of patients with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment who have brain inflammation”. Some participants, they add, will take the study drug, while others will take the placebo.

During this period, specialists at Ribera Povisa Hospital will perform brain imaging (MRI) measurements, blood tests and cognitive tests on patients participating in the study. At the end, a 12-month open-label extension is offered in which all participants take the study drug.

The launch of this trial represents the achievement of the first milestone for the advancement of medical research and the benefit to the patient, which both the Ribera Salud Foundation and Pratia promote in this collaboration that also seeks to increase patient access to innovative therapies in three of the hospitals of the Ribera group: the University Hospitals of Vinalopó (Elche) and Torrejón (Madrid) and the Hospital Ribera Povisa (Vigo).
