• The health centre, which has confirmed its position as a benchmark in the private and contracted healthcare sector in Spain, pays tribute to some of the key personalities who have played a key role during these five decades of healthcare and the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, announces the forthcoming presentation of the city’s Gold Medal to Ribera Povisa.

Ribera Povisa, the Ribera health group’s hospital in Vigo, celebrated its 50th anniversary with an institutional event in the city, which was attended by the mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, the technical general secretary of the Regional Ministry of Health, the president of the Ribera health group, Alberto de Rosa, the group’s CEO, Elisa Tarazona, and the managing director of the Ribera Povisa hospital, Ángela Guerra.

The event, held at the headquarters of Afundación, confirmed this hospital as a benchmark in the private and contracted healthcare sector in Spain, and also paid tribute to some of the key figures at Ribera Povisa over these five decades of healthcare. Dr. Aureliano Dávila, head of the Nuclear Medicine Service between 1974 and 1999, was awarded for his great work in the early years of the centre, being a key figure in the installation of the innovative cobalt pump and in the recruitment of professionals for the start-up of the hospital. Mr. Vicente Suárez, current head of studies at Cepovisa, received the award for the School of Nursing, for his outstanding contribution to the training of health personnel, both in Nursing and in technical degrees since 1991. Dr. Francisco Tardáguila, current head of the Radiodiagnosis service at Ribera Povisa, has been distinguished in recognition of his long and prosperous professional career, dedicated to quality care, for his constant concern in the promotion of technological innovation in his area, and also for his dedication to training work in this service. Dr. Roberto Valdés, current head of the Otorhinolaryngology service at Ribera Povisa, received the award for his outstanding contribution to the development of major outpatient surgery in the field of Otorhinolaryngology, contributing to the improvement of the quality of care and safety for all patients. And Ms. Mónica Alonso, head of the cleaning service at Ribera Povisa, accepted the award on behalf of all the centre’s healthcare and non-healthcare staff, in recognition of the teamwork of each and every one of the professionals for their commitment, availability and professionalism every day, and especially during the Covid19 pandemic.

In his speech, the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, announced the awarding of the city’s Gold Medal to the Ribera Povisa hospital, for its great contribution to the well-being of the citizens of Vigo as well as its great economic and social importance. The awarding of this distinction will take place on 28 March.

The president of the Ribera health group, Alberto de Rosa, highlighted the Ribera group’s commitment to the professionals, the citizens of Vigo and Galicia and the Galician institutions, to continue promoting a collaborative, excellent, innovative and humanistic healthcare system. He also thanked all the professionals at the Ribera Povisa hospital for the great work they do every day, seeking the best healthcare for patients and honouring the legacy of the thousands of workers who have made the hospital a benchmark in Spain over the years.

In addition, De Rosa paid tribute to all the patients who rely on the care of the professionals at the centre in Vigo, and on behalf of all of them, he presented a gift to Casilda Rodríguez, a patient who was born in Povisa and who has had her two children in the same hospital.

At the end of the day, the guests enjoyed a historical photographic exhibition, which reviews the five decades of history of the Ribera Povisa hospital, and which will be permanently installed on the ground floor of the health centre, at calle Salamanca 5. From 20 December, all patients and relatives who come to the hospital will be able to stop at these panels to see the details of the evolution of the centre over the last 50 years.
